Called By: Betty, sometimes Bets. It's never been clear if it stands for her first or middle name.
Age: 18
Canon: MCU
History:
Betty was born a
shifter (see Abilities below for more details). Her birth father used his abilities to try and destroy the population of a small town through the use of biological warfare, which put him on SHIELD and the Avengers' radar. They were able to stop the early phases of his plan, but they found him dead, along with his wife, in the nursery of their home. They had apparently died killing each other, the woman having stabed him in the heart, and the shifter had ripped out her throat. Before the rest of the SHIELD officers got there, and after the Hulk had turned back into Bruce, the team watched the infant literally shed her skin, changing her entire race and features in a few seconds. They kept this information a secret from SHIELD, and not long after, Bruce made the final decision to take her in, not wanting her life to be a living hell simply because she was born as something different.
Betty grew up mostly in the Avengers Tower, with the super heroes that she called her family a strong and encouraging factor in her life (if not a bit overprotective). She couldn't control her ability of where or when she changed her skin through most of her adolescence, so she was home schooled until she was old enough to go to high school, which was the age she also got a handle on her shifting, and finally stuck with one face. When she was about eight, Bruce started taking her to third-world countries (after plenty of vaccination, of course) to help him take care of the handicapped and the sick, especially India. It was from these trips that Betty formed her strong desire to help people, as well as her deep faith in Hinduism.
When she was eleven, she created her first scientific theorem. Not only was it complex, but it was applicable. It was then that her family figured out that she was a certified genius. She stayed in high school to round out her education, but she was enrolled in university courses when she was 15, and she's estimated to get her Ph. D. when she's 22. Because of this, and because of her abilities, SHIELD has been urging her to join their forces, but she still refuses, wanting continue her personal work towards helping people. She currently still lives in the Avenger's Tower.
Personality:
Before you ask: yes, haha, she does have a bit of a temper on her. Not green-rage, but you still don't want to get her angry, because she will cut you down efficiently enough with just her words. She was taught to always stand up for what she believes in, and she's not afraid to confront people in order to do so. People can interpret her to be bitchy and intimidating because of this, doubly so if it pertains to her work. If you don't get on her bad side, though, she's actually a very open and fun person to be around. Unlike her father, she's pretty loud and boisterous - she almost had to be, growing up in a house full of superheroes, if she wanted to get a word in. She can be a bit awkward with strangers because of this, especially since she was home schooled most of her life. Drop a note about science, though, and she's a dog with a bone, animated and passionate and articulate about her field. You'll probably have trouble shutting her up, actually. She also inherited her father's snark, and she can hold her own against the best. People are sometimes surprised that she has a sense of humor, but if she knows you well and trusts you, it makes itself clear. She is a bit hard to trust people outside her family and friends, but she doesn't rank on the level of paranoia her father has. Passionate is the best word to describe her - she's selective about what and who she loves, but she throws her whole self into it when she does.
Abilities:(A few of these are taken from the
Supernatural universe - if you are from the SPN universe, feel free to address that matter to her, but in no way do you have to be familiar with SPN to interact with Betty - but since the show is a bit vague on some on the details, I also made my own adjustments.)
Obviously, she can shapeshift. It's not a quick and easy process, however - it's actually
excruciatingly painful (warning: the clip in the link is fairly gross) and traumatized her growing up, no matter how many times she shifted. She couldn't control her shifts when she was younger, but now she can keep this body under control, and doesn't plan on changing it. Her body also heals at a rapid rate thanks to the elasticity in her cells, and she doesn't scar. She also found out from a shifter who tried to recruit her into their ranks that she can gain the thoughts of any living person she would chose to shift into. However, she doesn't plan on testing this theory.
Special Skills: Apart from her intelligence, Aunt Natasha taught her a decent amount of self defensive moves, and she practices them often. She's multi-lingual: she can speak Hindi, Bengali and Spanish fluently, and she's decent at Chinese, Russian, French and German. She's also a fairly adept hacker thanks to Uncle Tony, though nothing at his level.
3 Interesting Character Facts:
1. Betty adores animals. Though some of her research goes into DNA splicing from other animals, she's very serious about animal rights in the labs, and is in fact an activist for that cause
2. She considers Hulk her father as much as Bruce, though he takes on more of a "playmate" role than a fatherly one. She's very proud of both of them, and she loves to tell everyone that she's the daughter of the great Dr. Bruce Banner aka the Hulk
3. Speaking of, she may have gotten her schoolmates to believe that she has the ability to Hulk out. Hey, it scares of the students who bully other kids.
